Knocking on Heaven’s Dress

Well the day finally arrived…..the highly anticipated moment of the sugar dress taking to the skies on the spectacular Petronas Twin Towers Skybridge was everything we hoped it would be …..and more!!!!

The evening was amazing on so many levels.

Jessica Minh Ann of J Model Management, the company that organised the Spring Fashion Show walked first in this flowing blue number.

Up on the highest Twin Towers in the world. I mean WHAT a location!

First sugar dress on the catwalk.

First company to have its collection of cakes modelled on the runway.

Eleven international designers from the UK, Holland, India, Vietnam, Australia etc.

Networking party at the Malaysian Petroleum Club.

Exclusive tour to the observation deck on the 86th floor of the Petronas Twin Towers …..which is almost never accessible at night and omg what a view!

Nigel and I sat like proud parents ooh-ing at baby’s first steps at the show…albeit a little blue in the face from holding our breath. No one was more blue than the real father, Mr Creative Director himself, who was hostage backstage, nervous as a wreck. Not in small part contributed to the fact that he was told, just 3 hours before the show, that he had a grand total of THREE , yup three minutes to assemble the sugar dress onto Ms Model .

Ah.

But we needn’t have worried. Our creative team of 3 …..the girls who worked tirelessly with Allan to create this masterpiece ( big hand to Wei, Marina and Michelle!!!!!) and Allan whipped it on In good time………

then the announcer said ….. ” And now, the final collection of the night ……is by Just Heavenly!”

One by one the models bearing our beautiful cupcakes took their places on the runway in stunning formation….and then we saw it.

Emerging like a flame in the dark ( allow me my drama moment) , the light bulbs flashed, the people were wowed, the model sashayed and the dress stayed on.

I can only say that as a page in Just Heavenly’s books, this was something to be really REALLY proud of.

Dragon for a Dragon

We had the privilege of making this cake out of sugar and cupcakes for a Dragon of industry for his birthday. His loyal staff commissioned this beautiful dragon for him made out of 82 cupcakes and sugar. There's even a sparkler candle in it's mouth awaiting the touch of fire to spit flames. Watch out for that pic.

Fashionista Fever

To all you fashionistas out there, the countdown has begun to the J Model Autumn Winter Fashion Show on the 19th March……well it began a few days ago but we’re really on the last lap now!!

In exactly 7 days, Allan’s creation will be showcased as the FIRST sugar dress on the FIRST fashion show being held for the FIRST time (yeah, that’s a tad redundant but what the hey) on the Sky Bridge at the Petronas Twin Towers. The dress will be worn (gasp!) and walked (double gasp!) on the highest catwalk in the city to which only the most VVVVVIPs will be invited (because the bridge can only take so many) so we are all waiting with bated breath to see this amazing piece of sugar art unveiled.

Here’s a sneak peek of the design for all you curious cats….

,,,,and this is what happened. An international competition for the wedding dress was held inviting all budding designers to send in their sketches and this was picked by a panel of international judges……and as it was only given to Allan last week, he’s got a grand total of 12 days to fashion the entire dress!!

We’re all giving Allan our fullest and unbridled support here at the Heavenly House by doing really useful things like making appropriate sympathetic sounds and giving understanding nods……. but honestly, what else can we do but to hang back and watch the master at work, eh?

Well I am not going to reveal any more secrets about what and how right now……just watch this space for more updates!!!

A Valentine’s Surprise

I took a call today from a guy overseas who wanted to order The Scarlett for his wife. He asked for it to be delivered and for it to be a surprise.

I’m not sure why but I was absolutely thrilled to bits by his gesture and how he was thinking of his wife while being so far away and going through the trouble to pick something as fabulous and delicious and beautifully packaged as The Scarlett….. yes, I realise there’s a teeny weeny bit of advertising going on here…..but I’m sure you will agree that it’s a fair bit better than getting his PA to get Interflora to send over a bunch of whatever RM100 will get. Which on the day would be a bouquet of two and a half tired roses plus a fistful of leaves held together by some tape and made to look really large by a huge wad of sopping cotton wool and wrapped in 6 yards of transparent plastic. Marvellous.

But I digress.

I went through the rest of the day pleased as a poodle with a perm knowing that there will be a gal in KL opening her front door on Valentine’s Day to a bouquet of 8 heavenly rich moist choc fudge cupcakes topped with sexy red rosettes presented in a white ceramic vase……oooooh did you notice? there I go again….:-D….but you know that warm fuzzy feeling when someone you love does something sweet like that?

What does one have to do around here to get a bit of airtime? Have your biznez featured on a really popular food programme of course!!!

Tune in to “Ho Chak” on 8TV this Sunday, 12 February at 6pm to watch your favourite cakes being showcased at A Slice Of Heaven @ Pavilion!!

It was a blast to shoot and as you know, there’s no better crowd pleaser than some camera, lights, action! I was fascinated by the verbal velocity of Orange (really) and Vincent (whose girlfriend’s name is Apple…again, really), the hosts…. and boy, did they enjoy the cakes or what. Not a bad job eh…….being paid to eat?! I must admit I felt a twinge of envy about that….not only is it a weekly show ie they get to eat A LOT but both of them put together are about the size of my left leg.
